Virginia Woolf Collection: Vintage Classics Woolf Series 4 Books Boxset (A Room of One’s Own and Three Guineas, To The Lighthouse, Jacob’s Room, Mrs. Dalloway) Paperback

$36.99

This four-book boxset is a perfect gift for any Virginia Woolf enthusiast, and an ideal entry point for those who have yet to discover the brilliant works of the author with four of her most famous works. Each edition features an illustrated covers by artist Aino-Maija Metsola.

Titles in this boxset:

To The Lighthouse: This simple and haunting story captures the transience of life and its surrounding emotions. To the Lighthouse is the most autobiographical of Virginia Woolf’s novels. It touches on childhood and children’s perceptions and desires, it is at its most trenchant when exploring adult relationships, marriage and the changing class-structure in the period spanning the Great War.

Mrs Dalloway: Discover one of the most famous and ground-breaking pieces of twentieth century literature about one day in the mind of woman as she prepares to give a party. This brilliant novel explores the hidden springs of thought and action in one day of a woman’s life and is one of the most moving, revolutionary artworks of the twentieth century.

Jacob’s Room: A portrait of a young man, tracing his life from childhood to Cambridge University, and to his early adult life in artistic London. Jacob always yearns for something greater and embarks on a voyage to the Mediterranean before the war begins and his fate is forever altered.

Room of One’s Own and Three Guineas: This volume combines two books which were among the greatest contributions to feminist literature this century. Together they form a brilliant attack on sexual inequality. A Room of One’s Own, first published in 1929, is a witty, urbane and persuasive argument against the intellectual subjection of women, particularly women writers. The sequel, Three Guineas, is a passionate polemic which draws a startling comparison between the tyrannous hypocrisy of the Victorian patriarchal system and the evils of fascism.

Walking With Nanak Paperback Haroon Khalid

$27.00

Haroon Khalid’s lifelong fascination with Guru Nanak was reignited when he came upon ‘Baburbani’, a poem written by the saint. This, and the discovery that Guru Nanak spent a large part of his life in Pakistan, inspired Khalid to undertake a journey that he hoped would help him learn more about the revered founder of Sikhism.

In this wonderful paean to Guru Nanak, Khalid describes his travels across the length and breadth of Pakistan as he visits the many gurdwaras and other locales associated with the saint, delving into their history and musing about their place and significance in a Muslim country. But this book is not merely a story about gurdwaras, it is also a re-telling of the story of Nanak the son, the poet, the wanderer, the father, the friend. Sifting through the stories of his miracles and poetry, we emerge with a picture of Nanak the man.

Also exploring the histories of all the subsequent Gurus after Nanak, the book traces the story of how an unorganized spiritual movement evolved into the institutionalized Khalsa of Guru Gobind Singh. Through the journeys of all the Gurus, the book describes how Nanak the poet became Guru Nanak the saint. About the Author
Haroon Khalid has an academic background in anthropology. He got his undergraduate degree from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in social sciences with a focus on anthropology and history, and his graduate degree in anthropology from the University of Toronto. Why Bharat Matters Hardcover S. Jaishankar

$31.00

Whether drawing strength from its heritage and culture or approaching challenges with the optimism of democracy and technology, this is certainly a New India—an India that is more Bharat.

This is not just a tough world but also a turbulent and unpredictable one. It is marked by the impact of Covid, conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, climate events, radicalization and terrorism. There is complex geopolitics at work, such as the rise of China, the changed posture of the United States, the strategy of Russia, the impact of globalization and the power of new technologies.

India seeks to navigate these stormy seas without diluting its focus on becoming a leading power. As a vishwa mitra, it seeks the well-being of the Global South and to contribute to global good. India is more salient in global calculations and stands ready to embrace coming responsibilities and opportunities. Entering the Amrit Kaal, it visualizes an era of growth and development while staying true to its traditions and heritage.

In Why Bharat Matters, S. Jaishankar argues that while rising powers seek stability most of all, India must plan to rise amidst serious unpredictability. This process is also exceptional as it represents the rejuvenation of a civilizational state. Simultaneously, he also explains why foreign policy in a globalized world matters increasingly to all citizens in their daily lives.

This book is a must-read for every Indian to understand and seriously reflect on the reality of our times that is becoming clearer with each passing day—that India matters because it is Bharat.

WHY I AM A HINDU Hardcover Shashi Tharoor

$34.00

In Why I Am a Hindu, one of India?s finest public intellectuals gives us a profound book about one of the world?s oldest and greatest religions. Starting with a close examination of his own belief in Hinduism, he ranges far and wide in his study of the faith. He talks about the Great Souls of Hinduism, Adi Shankara, Patanjali, Ramanuja, Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and many others who made major contributions to the essence of Hinduism. He delves deep into Hinduism?s most important schools of thought (such as the Advaita Vedanta). He explains, in easily accessible language, important aspects and concepts of Hindu philosophy like the Purusharthas and Bhakti, masterfully summarizes the lessons of the Gita and Vivekananda?s ecumenism and explores with sympathy the ?Hinduism of habit? practised by ordinary believers. He looks at the myriad manifestations of political Hinduism in the modern era, including violence committed in the name of the faith by right-wing organizations and their adherents. He analyses Hindutva, explains its rise and dwells at length on the philosophy of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, its most significant ideologue. He is unsparing in his criticism of extremist ?bhakts? and unequivocal in his belief that everything that makes India a great and distinctive culture and country will be imperilled if religious ?fundamentalists? are allowed to take the upper hand. However, he also makes the point that it is precisely because Hindus form the majority that India has survived as a plural, secular democracy.A book that will be read and debated now and in the future, Why I Am a Hindu is a revelatory and original masterwork.

Whether you are an avid fan of Shakespeare or just beginning to explore his work, this collection is an invaluable treasure trove of literary excellence that will be cherished by generations to come. William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s preeminent dramatist. He is often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon”. His surviving works, including some collaborations, consist of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire and was baptised on 26 April 1564. Thought to have been educated at the local grammar school, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he went on to have three children, at the age of eighteen, before moving to London to work in the theatre. Two erotic poems, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece were published in 1593 and 1594 and records of his plays begin to appear in 1594 for Richard III and the three parts of Henry VI. Shakespeare’s tragic period lasted from around 1600 to 1608, during which period he wrote plays including Hamlet and Othello. The first editions of the sonnets were published in 1609 but evidence suggests that Shakespeare had been writing them for years for a private readership.

Shakespeare spent the last five years of his life in Stratford, by now a wealthy man. He died on 23 April 1616 and was buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford. The first collected edition of his works was published in 1623.
